June Post Service Officer Report
The Post had a Poppy sharing event at Highview Hills Senior Retirement center on May
14th in Lakeville for May service day. Introductions went around the table with lots of
banter and mutual conversations. Coffee and donuts were provided by Highview Hills.
There were some questions, and the Commander explained the different requirements
for the VFW and American Legion Posts, along with other answers. We had one
request to transfer membership to Post 210, and I will be taking magazines to Highview
along with a membership application in June.
We had a great time. We shared poppies with over a dozen veterans and widows. A
photo appeared in the Sun magazine. Post attendees were Commander Tim, me, and
Jim Cooper.
The second visit was the Pillars, next to our meeting site church. This was our first visit
there. We passed out Poppies with the vets and anyone else interested. Again, we
met some interesting people. A Nurse who served in VN. She also asked about
transferring her membership from New Prague to Lakeville. I will include her and the
Pillars in a visit with magazines and applications this month. At both of these visits,
veterans and family made cash donations which I passed on to the poppy fund at FF.
The post also submitted photos for our Veterans Day of Service. You probably saw one
in the Latest Sun paper. I printed some off also for you to see what impact we are
having on our community.
The Post continues to share their veteran related magazines and newspapers. I will
continue to drop them off after the monthly post meeting to the 4 centers we currently
visit.
With the summer months and everyone trying to get in as much time with family and
friends before winter closes us in again, I will try and set up a July visit and then
another in August?
