Enlisted Career:
Joined the US Navy in May 1976. From 1976 to 1987 he was stationed at Naval
Communication Station Diego Garcia, USS Frederick LST-1184, Naval Station Subic
Bay, and USS Harold E Holt FF-1074. In 1986 he was advanced to Chief Petty Officer.
 
Officer Career:
Commissioned as an Ensign in September 1987 and assigned to USS Cayuga LST-
1186 as Main Propulsion Assistant. In 1988 Ensign Wegner broke his leg in an
automobile accident. As a result, he was transferred to the staff of Commander Naval
Surface Group Long Beach, CA. In February 1989 he was reassigned to USS Cayuga
LST-1186. In 1990 and 1991 while deployed as part of an Amphibious Readiness Group
USS Cayuga participated in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 1992 LTjg Wegner was
transferred to USS Supply AOE-6 as Auxiliaries and Cargo Fuels Officer. In 1996 LT
Wegner was assigned to USS Ponce LPD-15 as Chief Engineer.
 
LT Wegner Retired 1 May 1998 and took a job with Cargill. He worked as various
facilities in Virginia, Iowa, and Kansas. In 2008 he transferred to Corporate HQ in
Wayzata, MN and was responsible for the maintenance and reliability of all Oilseeds
Facilities in North America. He retired from Cargill October 2023.
